THE VICS COLUMN - By Pete Tonge

WE’RE only two weeks into a new year and we’ve already recorded two clean sheets, the first since way back on September 7th!

What a difference they make, confidence is being restored, smiles are back on our faces.

All credit must be given to our management team who have kept battling on through a difficult couple of months results wise and kept trying to do the right things.

Obviously bad results bring criticism, of players and management but the loyal Vics fans have stuck by their club and there was a buzz back on the terraces at the end of Saturday’s match at Wincham Park against Avro.

This was a solid, determined looking display against a strong physical team and followed on from a more flowing display in midweek against a young, technically gifted Stockport County team in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Both ended in 1-0 wins for Vics, and it will hopefully spark an improved run as the season progresses.

It’s been a hard couple of months being a Vics fan with leads being taken and then thrown away with abandon, most notably in the FA Vase tie with Wythenshawe Town on November 2.

We were 3-0, 4-1 and then 5-2 up early in the second half before blowing it with the game ending up 5 all!

To make it worse, we lost the replay 2-1 with an insipid display down in deepest Wythenshawe.

Things didn’t improve much in November, with the 3-2 home defeat against Squires Gate being particularly poor, again another two-goal lead thrown away.

December came and went without a win but now three matches into the new year, we’re unbeaten with two wins and a draw and you can see the confidence coming back into the team, and the fans.

Hopes and dreams are high again, and you can be sure of one thing being a Vics fan, the rest of the season certainly won’t be dull.

Also you can be sure that the Vics fans will be fully behind their team, cheering them on as they know better than most the ups and downs of football, and the true meaning of being a loyal supporter.

After all, the Vics are “The Club that Wouldn’t Die” so why not come down to the next match and join the rollercoaster ride of being a Vics supporter.

We’re fan owned and fan run, and enjoying every second of it, so pop along to support your local club.

The next match is on Wednesday, January 22 v Barnoldswick Town at Wincham Park, kick-off 7.45pm.
