WINSFORD Wheelers members are tackling the British Cycling North West Cyclo-Cross League for the first time this season.

Andrew Morley and Lloyd Smith command mid-table positions going into the next race in Macclesfield this weekend (Dec 28/29).

The league started in September and finishes in February, with racing taking place across the region and involving cycling in harsh conditions and overcoming different obstacles.

It isn't the only cycling discipline in which the club is involved though.

"We have members taking part in time trials, road racing events and velodrome events too," said committee member Lloyd Smith who is also the holder of the club's 10-mile time trial title for 2019.

The club also got involved in fundraising during 2019.

"We completed a staggering cycling challenge, 150 miles in one day to raise money for St Luke's Hospice," said Lloyd.

"If memory serves me right, we raised over £2000 as a club."

For group rides, members tend to meet either at the Old Star or the Red Lion.

If you would like to know more about the club, general enquiries can be raised at the club's Facebook page.

The club, which currently has 70 members and is open to all, is affiliated with British Cycling.

This means race licenses can be purchased so that riders can represent the club through British Cycling events.
