THINGS are very tight at the bottom of Division One after week 10 of the Mid-Cheshire Table Tennis League.

Only eight points separate bottom side Bears and seventh-place Winsford after the latest round of fixtures, in which 7-3 was clearly a popular scoreline.

Wreckers and Tigers both won by that four-point margin as they beat Lemmings and Sparks respectively.

Terry Turner won all three of his matches for Wreckers but Dave Etchells was a star in defeat for Lemmings, with wins over both John Jestin and Helena Dennett. Craig Lee and Winston Jacobs both won three matches for Tigers.

Martin Thomson starred for Victoria Club as they edged to a narrow 6-4 win over Raptors but the performance of the week came from Winsford, who thrashed Manweb 8-2.

Gary Owen gained a maximum for Winsford while both of Manweb’s points came from Dave Nelson.

The 7-3 theme continued in Division Two as four matches finished with that scoreline.

The top-of-the-table clash saw Cobras move five points clear at the summit by beating Lab Rats, with Geoff Mee excelling for the victors.

In the other 7-3 matches, Wolves, Sticklebacks and Vikings were victors over Romans, Victoria Two and Snakes respectively.

At the bottom, Rangers leap-frogged Lostock Smashers with an 8-2 win, thanks in no small part to a maximum from Ross Bettinson.
