WITTON Albion, 1874 Northwich and Northwich Victoria will be in the hat for the FA Cup second qualifying round draw on Monday.

1874 Northwich produced an upset, toppling high-division opposition Pickering Town 2-0 at Townfield.

Witton’s third long journey to the east coast already this season was rewarded with a 1-0 success at Seaham Red Star.

Northwich Victoria secured a 0-0 draw at higher-league Lancaster City and will play the replay at Wincham Park on Wednesday.

Witton’s victory was sealed early on, with Billy Smart netting the only goal of the tie with Seaham in the eighth minute.

Scott McGowan was the hero for 1874, netting in the 36th and 86th minutes to send their North Yorkshire rivals packing with their tails between their legs.

McGowan also hit the post in the 74th minute.

Northwich Vics, who handed a start up front to 22-year-old ex-Chester, Witton and Bala player Ben Greenop in place of Robert Doran, created the better chances at Lancaster but couldn’t break the deadlock.

Manager Steve Wilkes said: “We restricted them to half chances but we created three or four really good chances.

“We’re disappointed not to have won the game.

“It’ll be a completely different game on Wednesday night.

“Lancaster are a good side and they’ll say they had one or two players missing that they might bring back in on Wednesday, but overall we’ve come to a league team that’s two divisions above us and held our own.

“A neutral today wouldn’t have known which team was two leagues above or two leagues below, but it means nothing if we don’t finish the job off on Wednesday night.

“I know that might sound a bit negative but that’s what I’ve just told the lads in the dressing rooms.

“We’ve got a replay, we go again Wednesday.

“The fans once again were absolutely unbelievable. They kept us going right until the end.”

Wilkes explained that Doran missed out through injury.

“Rob injured his back in training on Thursday,” said Wilkes.

“We thought he was alright but he was a bit sore so we didn’t risk him. It’s a long season.

“Young Ben came in and did really well.

“He’s trained with us twice. I don’t think the players know how he plays yet but he holds the ball up really well and he’ll be a really good signing for us.”
