WINSFORD Saxons got the better of higher-ranked opponents to secure a place in the Crewe and District FA Cup final.

Substitute Alex Townhill’s double was a highlight during a 4-2 win against Sandbach United reserves that also featured goals from James Cain and Ste Hughes.

Their reward is to take on another Cheshire League side, Congleton Vale, in the showpiece.

In the Crewe and District League’s Premier Division, Over 3 Grange returned to winning ways when they edged out Tarporley.

Adam Campbell and Mason Farrell both scored in a 2-1 victory.

Elsewhere Barnton Wanderers, the defending champions, were too strong for Mary Dendy while Clock Tower conceded a scheduled meeting with Sandbach Town because they did not have enough players.
