Oxton Ladies 5-1 Winnington Park Ladies
WITH promotion secured, this was not as damaging a defeat as it might have been.
Oxton, who finish as runners-up to Bowdon’s thirds in the Cheshire Women’s League’s top-flight, were stronger from start to finish.
Winnington Park did at least avoid a whitewash, and Jaz Barlow’s perfectly-executed reverse-hit through the goalkeeper’s legs was one of the goals of the game.
The visitors created other opportunities from short-corners but failed to take them and reached the interval 2-1 down.
Oxton continued to apply pressure, resisted by the Northwich team for the first 20 minutes of the second-half, until they broke through again.
Park’s resistance wavered, and as tiredness set in they conceded twice more before full-time.

WINNINGTON Park held their own against promoted opponents at Grange School and reached the interval on level terms.
They were the first to find the net too from a short-corner only for the umpire to rule out the goal after spotting an offence in the circle.
Oxton gradually asserted themselves and pierced their hosts’ defence three times before the finish.
A youthful Winnington side can be happy with how they performed and Caitlin Wyllie received credit after reminding others of her versatility by carrying out a range of roles during the course of the game.
