DARREN Porter held his nerve during a deciding frame to ensure Witton Chimes A’s persistence was rewarded with a victory in the Supplementary Shield final.

They had trailed three times to opponents Greenbank C, who had prevailed in league meetings between the teams this season, at Gladstone Club last Wednesday.

Wins for Craig Humphries, Sam Littler – following an epic hour-long battle – and captain Michael Bell edged Greenbank in front.

Successes for Stuart Porter in the second frame and Andy Johnson in a tense fourth kept hopes alive for Chimes, who had recovered from 2-0 down to eliminate higher-ranked Rudheath at the semi-finals stage.

Charlie Ridgeway took the sixth frame to make it 3-3 before Porter almost cleared the table during an early visit in a decisive seventh.

However he finished the job when his next chance came along.

Meanwhile Steve Moores, from runners-up Castle D, has been confirmed as the averages winner in the Northwich and District League’s top-flight for this season.

He won 14 of the 16 frames he played.

Gladstone D’s Darren Walton was the pick of the bunch in Division Two with 15 victories from 18.

Si Cross, from champions Green Dragon A, topped the list in Division Three after prevailing in all but one of 17 frames he contested.
