CHESHIRE Stars A resumed their quest to be promoted to the Everybody Netball League’s top-flight when they beat depleted opponents.
Catherine Barton and Lucy Bath’s shooting was accurate and reliable throughout a comfortable 41-22 win against Ringwood in the Championship Division that featured a player-of-the-match performance by Abby Hilldrup at centre.
The Middlewich-based side sit third in the table, three points adrift of Sandbach Roses.
There were mixed fortunes for the club’s Premier Division teams.
Stars S were boosted by the return to action of Alisan Barrett-Cliffe, and were grateful as well to Jenny Lea for standing in, when they went down 46-14 against N20.
Meanwhile Stars T were 33-28 victors in a knockout encounter with AIM at Crewe Lifestyle Centre after which Annalise Wilce and Maria Jenkinson were chosen as their team’s best performers.
Stars R have the same number of points as rivals Tigers at the top of Division One but occupy first place on goal-difference.
They recorded a 12th in 13 attempts this season after a 32-22 success against back-markers Wildcats that featured Alison Parry demonstrating her versatility by switching from defence to attack.
However Marianne Needham’s coverage of centre court made her the team’s star turn.
