DESPITE his disappointment at Witton Albion’s performance during a draw with Bamber Bridge, Carl Macauley took comfort from the result.

His side had appeared on course for a victory after goals from Michael Wilson, who converted a penalty, and Tom Owens replied to Ali Waddecar’s opener.

However Kieran Charnock scored in stoppage-time to thwart them.

“I’m happy with a point,” said Macauley.

“But not with our display; we didn’t repeat in the second-half what we had shown in the first.

“There are reasons for that, and it’s tough for those lads coming in when you have four key players missing.

“It would have made a huge difference to Bamber Bridge if they had the same number of guys out.

“That’s the reality, and I’m glad we’ve something to show for our effort.”

He had initially included James Foley in the starting line-up after the midfielder had come through a fitness test.

However he changed his mind in the moments before kick-off, selecting Will Booth instead.

Albion still posed more of an attacking threat then their guests before the break, and Brig goalkeeper Danny Roccia produced saves to deny Owens, Anthony Gardner, Danny McKenna and Booth.

McKenna also drilled narrowly wide from another effort.

Macauley said: “We listed the chances at half-time and there were six of them.

“At that stage we felt comfortable and were on top.

“However when you’re at full pelt and creating chances or getting into good positions then it’s important to put one away and make the opposition chase you.

“Even if we didn’t control the game, we looked more likely to score than they did.”

Instead Brig took the lead when Waddecar curled in a free-kick.

To their credit, the visitors rallied after going 2-1 down and sounded a warning before Charnock powered a rising shot past goalkeeper Greg Hall with time running out.

“We only had a couple of moments in the second-half and scored on both occasions,” added Macauley.

“The lads deserve credit for showing the character to react because I couldn’t see how we were going to rescue the situation.

“We must improve though, we know that.”
