Why should I watch..?

To see if Witton can pick up where they left off last weekend, when they held Gainsborough, and start a run they hope will propel them up the table.

They want to improve on a home record that has seen them win only twice at Wincham Park in the Northern Premier League this season – and just once in their past five Premier Division games there.

However a sequence of improved performances on their travels has boosted confidence.

They host opponents that have won three successive matches in all competitions and who have prevailed in back-to-back league games for the first time this term after seeing off Stalybridge Celtic last weekend.

What they’ve said

“The games coming up are important.

“However I’ll never look at one and say that we’ll try to prioritise it over another.

“That’s not how I think and I’ve always preached respect towards every opponent.

“We’ll be ready for Bamber Bridge – that’s our immediate concern.”

Carl Macauley, Witton Albion manager

“Witton have a decent budget and some good players.

“We met them not so long ago [at home] and beat them 2-0.

“We know they’re a good side but we just want to continue the momentum we have right now.”

Matt Lawlor, Bamber Bridge player-coach

Numbers game

Only North Ferriby have collected fewer points than Witton from home matches this season in the Northern Premier League’s top-flight

Witton team news

Billy Smart returns after completing a four-match ban, but Liam Goulding has returned to parent club Altrincham following the end of a month-long loan spell.

Meanwhile Carl Macauley rated midfielder Cesaire as ‘doubtful’ after he limped out of a Mid-Cheshire District FA Senior Cup encounter with Winsford United in midweek.

He has the same concern as well over James Foley (ankle) and Will Jones (neck).

Remember when…

Witton visited Bamber Bridge earlier this season?

Albion were undone by a 10-minute spell during which they conceded twice against hosts promoted to the Premier Division via the play-offs at the end of last term.

Carl Macauley’s men created chances before the break to reduce their arrears only to be denied by bad luck and determined defending.
