NORTHWICH Centurions demonstrated their improvement when they claimed a title after the Percy Mason Memorial Meet in Warrington last weekend.

They scored most points of the visiting clubs, securing for them the team prize ahead of Knutsford Vikings.

“It’s an achievement our swimmers should be proud of,” said performance head coach Simon Pickering.

“We had an amazing weekend and the hard work during training is really paying off when you see a long list of personal bests.”

Megan Day, aged 13, embodied that progress after clocking a lifetime best in eight of the nine events she contested.

A highlight was a third-place finish in her age-group category in the 200m breaststroke after improving to 2:48.07 – lopping almost 20 seconds off her entry time.

Meanwhile 14-year-old Madeline Pratt and club captain Ethan Beckman, 14, were the highest-ranked Northwich swimmers in the individual standings after two days of competition at Orford Jubilee.

Pickering said: “There were many terrific individual performances, and I don’t want to take anything away from those.

“However Megan stands out as our swimmer of the weekend after months of pushing herself hard in training.

“She showed grit and determination to succeed and was absolutely flying all weekend.”

Pratt took first place in the under 14s girls' 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley

There were wins too for George Scurry (under 12s boys' 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke) and Chloe Bedford (under 11s girls' 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly).

Centurions’ showing is ideal preparation for their National Arena League North West Division Two final on Saturday.

They head to Darwen to take on rivals from Blackpool Aquatics, Copeland, Fleetwood, Lancaster City, Leyland Barracudas and Romiley Marina.

Racing starts at 5.30pm.
