BILLY Smart scored the only goal to send Witton Albion through in the FA Trophy at the expense of Whitby.

The midfielder, ruled out of last weekend’s FA Cup encounter with Solihull through suspension, scored on the hour to send Carl Macauley’s men through to the second qualifying round.

They bank £3,250 as a reward.

The Seasiders cursed their luck when substitute Greg Rutherford’s shot struck the woodwork, while Lewis Maloney had been denied the same way in the moments after Smart had scored his fourth goal of the season.

1874 Northwich recorded their biggest win of the season when they put five goals without reply past Silsden in the North West Counties League’s top-flight.

Scott McGowan scored twice, including a penalty, while Taylor Kennerley, captain Matthew Woolley and Kyle Riley were on target too.

Northwich Victoria went down 3-1 at home to promotion-hopefuls Congleton Town, who took the lead through Dan Cope.

Steve Wilkes’ side levelled on 37 minutes only for former Knutsford duo Tom Schofield and Dean Warburton to combined for a second Bears goal.

Substitute Emeni Adegbenro put the game out of Vics’ reach in the second-half.

Winsford United were denied a victory when Declan Gregson levelled for Litherland in their Premier Division encounter.

Debutant Obi Anoruo had put Blues in front.

In the Cheshire League, Middlewich Town climbed to fourth in the Premier Division following a 5-2 win at Denton Town.

Jamie Petrie scored a hat-trick.

Meanwhile Cuddington failed to make the most of an opportunity to take over top spot in League Two after they lost by the same score at home to Club AZ.

Elsewhere Lostock Gralam cruised to the JA Walton Challenge Cup last eight after thrashing Grappenhall.

Substitute Tom Smith’s brace for Middlewich Town helped them to reach Reserves Division Challenge Cup semi-finals following a 4-1 win at Broadheath Central.

Tom Brain and Daniel Martin netted too.
