LOUISE Mainwaring demonstrated her potential with an encouraging performance during the latest round of the North West Cyclocross Association League.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club rider travelled north to Kendal for the fourth meeting of 2018, and made the most of favourable conditions at the Westmorland County Showground.

She completed five laps of a technical course, which included a series of obstacles that cyclists had to run over while carrying their bike, to classify third in the senior women’s category on only her second outing after making her series debut the previous month.

Christina Weijak, from Barrow Central Wheelers, took first prize ahead of Jane Sutton (Port Sunlight Wheelers).

Weaver Valley were represented in the men’s event by Kevin Waton and David Halman (over 70s).

The former finished inside the top 30 in the seniors category.

Giles Drake (Wheelbase Castelli) topped the time-sheet to claim victory, and with it the Paul Savage Trophy.

It is his fourth successive victory this season, and keeps him out in front in the overall standings.

Meanwhile the league’s next fixture, the Manchester Wheelers Cross, is scheduled to take place at Heaton Park on Sunday.
