WINSFORD United celebrated back-to-back victories on their travels with a superb second-half showing on Saturday.

After going behind to an Adam Hughes effort before the break, they recovered thanks to Scott Taylor’s double and strikes from Danny Hudson and Danny Egan.

The hosts were the first to threaten when Daniel O’Brien’s free kick was headed narrowly wide by Steve Ferrigan.

But the visitors responded when Adam Bayley’s teasing cross dropped inches wide of the far post before Ryan Hibbert’s free kick was palmed clear from under the crossbar by ex-Winsford custodian Michael Langley.

Blues skipper James Rothwell created space on the edge of the area, but his goal bound shot was pushed to safety by Langley.

A through-ball to Craig Cairns then caught the visitors’ back-four flat-footed, but with a goal looking likely Dale Latham made the first of a series of fine saves.

However the hosts did break through nine minutes before the break when Hughes punished hesitant defending.

It took 20 minutes for Lee Duckworth’s men to respond, drawing level when Ryan Mellor’s cross hit a defender’s arm inside the box and Taylor converted from the spot.

Substitute Kyle Riley released Danny Hudson down the left shortly afterwards, and he slid the ball under Langley to give Winsford the lead.

It was quickly 3-1 in unusual circumstances; after an off-the-ball incident involving Langley and Rothwell, referee Nick Barnard awarded another penalty.

Taylor stepped up again, driving past the ball with enough force to beat his former teammate.

Blues settled the outcome in added time, when Egan converted a spectacular bicycle kick from inside the area.
