Relatives of missing teenager Liam Smith have been told a male body has been found in a remote wooded area in Aberdeenshire.
The discovery was made by a member of the public at around 3pm on Friday at Craig of Affrusk, south of Banchory.
Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of the 16-year-old has been notified.
He was reported missing on Sunday November 18 having last been seen in Queen’s Road, Aberdeen, the previous day.
CCTV showed him at Union Square later on the Saturday afternoon when he boarded a 202 Stagecoach bus for Aberdeenshire at 1.11pm.
Specialist resources including the police helicopter, search dogs, search advisers and the dive and marine unit have been used while looking for Liam.
Police say enquiries are ongoing and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
