AN amateur interior designer from Northwich has been chosen as a runner-up in the ‘Plumlife stylist’ competition after creating a stunning mood board reflecting the redesign a typical family sitting room.

Cristina dos Santos, from Northwich, impressed the judges with her imaginative and practical scheme for a family living space.

The competition was judged anonymously by Fiona Woodward-Kelly (FWK), chief interior designer for Plumlife from Comberbatch, Juli Parr, programme leader foundation degree in interior design with sustainability at Stockport College and Lucie’s tutor, Kimberly Duran, an award winning, Manchester-based interiors blogger from www.swoonworthy.co.uk and Lisa Westerman, group head of sales and marketing at Plumlife.

Cristina said: "The brief asked for a functional living and dining area for a young family. I produced a design within budget that included maximum storage space balanced with a large living area.

“I used high gloss and glass to provide a feeling of space and a blend of straight lines with round tables to focus the energy of the room. I provided colour through the use of patterned wallpapers and the Ken Done ‘Walking on Lake Eyre’ print, reflected the family unit."

Fiona Woodward-Kelly said: “This was a challenging brief because the designers had to work on a budget to come-up with an attractive, practical design, which would appeal to a range of families with different tastes.”

Lisa Westerman, group head of sales and marketing for Plumlife, said: “It’s great to be able to support new talent and help young designers carve out a career.”
