PUPILS from Brookdale Primary school in Greasby need you to help them become top of the pots in a national recycling competition.

They are competing in a contest to see who can save the most Activia, Actimel and Shape yogurt pots from landfill.

It ends at the end of October and the five top collectors will win contributions of £200, £100, £50, £25 or £10 for their chosen school, charity or non-profit organisation.

The Grand Prize winner will also receive a visit from competition organiser, recycling company TerraCycle, for a special talk on recycling.

As well as attempting to become Top of the Pots, the school also earns two TerraCycle points for the weight of each Danone Activia, Actimel and Shape yogurt pot and bottle sent in.

Each point can be redeemed for a one pence contribution which the school uses to fund its eco projects.

The collected bottles and pots will be be used to produce a range of plastic products such as garden benches, watering cans or waste bins.

Headteacher Mark Prescott said: “Brookdale Primary School joined the Activia Yogurt Brigade in January 2011 and to date we have collected a staggering 9,345 yogurt pots and bottles.

“We also collect on the BIC Writing Instruments Brigade where we have collected 1,946 used pens and the Aquafresh oral care Brigade where we have collected 338 used toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes raising a total of £443.86 with TerraCycle for waste packaging that can’t be recycled with the local council collections.”.

Virginie Guise, senior brand manager from Activia, said: “Activia UK is delighted to be able to offer consumers the opportunity to recycle or upcycle their Danone Activia and Shape yogurt pots as well as Danone Actimel bottles.

“The Activia Yogurt Brigade is an innovative program that helps reduce landfill and it is promising to see people take such an interest in protecting the environment and supporting great causes. We are encouraging schools, businesses and individuals who love Activia yogurt to set up a collection point and start their own Activia Yogurt Brigade and also to take part in the Top of the Pots Collection Contest."
