YOUR town needs you - to support Middlewich’s Wartime Weekend.

A preview of the festival has been organised a day early, this Friday, to allow schools to bring classes.

Organiser Kerry Fletcher said: “We realised from the last event that there were schools interested in coming along to an event like this because wartime features on the curriculum.

“Plus a few of the older residents found it difficult to come along on the weekend because they had trouble parking close to the Civic Hall.

“We also used this opportunity to invite curators and education officers from Congleton Museum, Chester Military Museum and Halton Military Museum especially to come on this day.”

The Town Mayor’s civic parade will also have a wartime twist on Sunday.

The parade will be led by 146 ATC Squadron Band from Civic Way at 10.15pm to St Michael’s Church.

Town Mayor Simon McGrory added: “It’s an exciting prospect of taking the civic parade back in time where everyone involved can enjoy the nostalgia of the period.”

Meanwhile, St Michael’s Church will be focusing on peace and bringing communities back together during the festival with a flag from every nation on display.

Tickets are still available for Fiona Harrison and the Wychcraft Big Band at Middlewich Royal British Legion.

Kerry added: “The Royal British Legion help countless service personnel and their families, so please come along and support us.”

Tickets are £8 (£7 concessions) can be bought from the Victoria Buildings, online at middlewich.org.uk or reserve tickets for collection on the night by calling 833434 or 841379.
