A DAREDEVIL from Lostock Gralam and her colleague braved the heights to take part in a charity skydive, raising more than £2,000 for three causes close to their hearts.

Kelly Dean, 25, from Townshend Road, and friend Amy Warhurst, 27, from Salford, who both work for Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC), completed their feat, in front of a crowd of family, friends and partners at Whitchurch Airfield.

The first-time skydivers raised a total of £2,500 and have donated £2,000 to the Children of India charity, with two separate sums of £250 given to Cancer Research UK and Teenage Cancer.

The charities have personal significance for the women, especially Children of India, as Amy is currently in the country working at two schools and has used the money to buy educational supplies.

Kelly added: “We work together and we were just in the office one day and said we thought it would be a good way to raise money for Amy’s trip to India, as well.”

Talking of the day of the skydive, Kelly said: “We were the first ones to jump. I wasn’t nervous really, Amy was more nervous, so I was worried about her. But when we were doing the jump, she loved it.

“I think we free-fell for about 30 seconds – it was good but I was terrified.”

Amy added: “It was an amazing experience, and I’m gutted it’s over.”

Kelly said: “I’d do it again, but I’d like to go somewhere exotic next time.”

The pair also reached their fundraising target by hosting a three-course meal at OCA restaurant in Sale, catering for 150 people.

Kelly added: “We had some very kind and very generous donations from businesses in Trafford, for the raffle and the auction.

“We raised the money with the support of friends, family and colleagues, and we would like to thank them all.”
