CREWE boss Dario Gradi remains adamant that his current crop of players is good enough to turn things around.

With pressure already beginning to mount in his third reign, the 67-year-old needs to reproduce one of his stellar Alex comebacks of old to transform the current campaign into a positive one.

Losing at home to Morecambe on Saturday and an FA Cup exit against non-league underdogs York City has fuelled the fire raging among disgruntled supporters.

But the Alex boss believes he can stop the rot by keeping the faith.

“Going down the leagues is not easy,” he said.

“In the end you find your own place in the whole structure but I think we are good enough to do well in this league. I just have to prove it.

“We don’t want to keep saying we are unlucky but I don’t think I am fooling myself.”

Gradi has ruled out making any further loans in the short-term unless they can find that one player who will make a big difference.

“I don’t expect anything to happen this week,” he said.

“If we could sign someone, it wouldn’t be for a lot of money.

“We’re not really able to spend so we’re talking loan players and where are we going to get one from?

“It would probably be a kid from a big club and that is a still a possibility.

“We don’t really want to take someone who can’t get into a League One side but there is a market we can look into.

“We’re always looking and Neil is working very hard on it.

“If we can find people that are better than that is a route we will take.”

Gradi is convinced there were positives in the weekend defeat against the Shrimps, which sparked notable jeers down Gresty Road.

“We conceded two poor goals but watching the DVD gave us a bit of hope,” he continued.

“Some supporters will be surprised at that but I can only say it as I see it. I won’t say what I think they want me to say.

“We actually gave Cheltenham more chances and we beat them 4-0.

“The players know what they are supposed to be doing now.

“The football is here to stay while I am here; we just have to make it better at both ends.”

Six points is the target as they travel to Northampton Town on Saturday, kick off 3pm, before welcoming Football League newboys Burton Albion on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

Young midfielder Luke Murphy believes they climb the league table, starting at Sixfields this weekend “We have to stick together and we will pull through,” he said.

“Dario knows how to get the best out of me as a player and I am enjoying being tucked in more than out on the wing.

“I think I can score more goals; I’ve got three and could have had more.

“Dario says I’m in the team to score and make goals so I need to do that. Northampton will be up for it [on Saturday] but I’m confident.”
