THE Crewe West Community Group is celebrating after gaining a Big Lottery Awards grant of £9,958.

Local councillor Roy Cartlidge presented members of the group with the cheque at community centre Webby’s on Monday.

The funding bid – which was initiated by Cheshire East Community Development alongside the Crewe West Community Group – was made earlier this year.

The Big Lottery cash will be splashed out on young and older people’s activities and events, which will be delivered in Crewe West by Webby’s.

Councillor Brian Silvester, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, said: "The presentation of this money to the Crewe West Community Group is fantastic news.

"It is a great testament to the important work they do, alongside Crewe West Councillors Roy Cartlidge, Robert Parker and Jacqueline Weatherill, to make neighbourhoods safer and stronger “Local issues are at the heart of everything the community group do and I look forward to continuing our work with them and putting this money to good use to improve the area for all residents."
