A CREWE lifeguard team are set to compete in the largest competitive event in the pool industry’s calendar.

The National Pool Lifeguard Championship’s final, being held in Birmingham on November 28, will see team Cheshire East, who train at Crewe Swimming Pool battle against 17 other teams from across the UK.

Olympic swimmer Adam Whitehead has pledged his support for the event and will be attending and potentially taking part.

Members Rebecca Smith, Matthew Hatton, Lucy Jerome, Richard Chadwick and reserves Stephanie Douglas and Stuart Morris will be competing for the much coveted national trophy.

Managed by Steve Houchin, they hope to take the title from Birmingham who put in an outstanding performance last year.

The event is now in its fifth year and can take credit for raising pool safety standards across the industry.

The championships are used as a training tool by many operators and act as a motivator to lifeguards.
