CREWE'S South Cheshire College has scored Focus College status, provided by British Colleges Sport and the Football Association.

The award recognises the part that further education colleges play in developing football development provision and ensuring that the beautiful game is at the heart of college life for every student.

South Cheshire College topped the list of ten colleges up and down the country who have achieved the status.

Colleges are selected each academic year to be a part of the programme after a rigorous application process that starts 12 months in advance.

South Cheshire College will now play a leading role nationally in advancing its football provision and maximising links with the community.

The College will also receive extended support from the BCS and FA to form a football development strategy, which looks to increase wider participation in football amongst 16-19 year-olds through playing, coaching, volunteering and refereeing.

College principal Peter Swift said: “We are delighted to have achieved this status which demonstrates our commitment to developing football opportunities for our students and the wider community.”

The programme also covers key areas such as educating staff and students about the Respect programme and providing pathways for students to enter community sport through Charter Standard clubs.
