A KINDHEARTED Rudheath student has been crowned Cheshire West and Chester’s Young Volunteer of the Year.

Seventeen-year-old Joseph Rimmer, of Whatcroft Lane, received the coveted accolade for his role as an inclusive sports facilitator and support worker at Northwich Multi-Sports Club in Winnington.

Joe – a former Guardian Teen of the Month – was presented with his award at a glittering ceremony at Ellesmere Port’s Civic Hall, where he was described as, ‘a role model and mentor and a very dedicated member of the team.”

He is studying for his A-levels at St Nicholas’s High School and hopes to become a vet, but in his spare time he helps mum Barbara look after the foster children who come to stay with them, many of who are disabled.

Joe also vounteers for the Riding for the Disabled Association club, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust and Moss Wood animal hospital in Knutsford.

Mum Barbara Rimmer, who runs the Multi-Sports Club for disabled youngsters, said she could not be prouder of her son.

“We can always rely on him, he does a fantastic job and is great with the kinds, he almost has a sixth sense.

“Everywhere he goes he’s got children climbing all over him, he’s like a walking activity centre. I really am so proud, he’s just an all-round good egg.”

The Multi-Sports Club gives children with disabilities access to fun and sports on a Saturday morning.
