SOUTH Cheshire MP Edward Timpson grilled ministers in the House Of Commons last week about the alarming failure rate of children in our region who enter into treatment for substance misuse.
Figures show that almost half of all children fail to complete the course successfully, with a success rate of only 53%.
MR Timpson made the comments as he questioned the Minister of State for Health about the issue.
He said: "Substance misuse among children in the North West is much more common than among children in any other region of England, according to the numbers in treatment.
"However, the treatment just isn't successful.
"The Government needs to wake up to the fact that existing measures aren't up to scratch, and the minister's bland and uninformed response simply doesn't cut the mustard.
"Children in Crewe and Nantwich who want to kick their habit deserve better help."
