"We also asked about their plans. ”

Rebecca Stubbs, who organises the School Council, said: “It was an enlightening experience for our council members, opening their eyes to how a real-life council works.

"They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the council and several are considering the offer to join youth forums in the near future.”

Mayor Margaret Simon and Sandbach councillor Barry Moran, welcomed students from Sandbach High School for Girls at Cheshire East’s headquarters at Westfields on Middlewich Road.

Councillor David Brown, also visited schools in Holmes Chapel and Macclesfield and met up with Congleton Youth Council.

He said: “My area of work includes how we involve young people.

"I put it to each of the school councils that we’d like to bring a roadshow round to promote what Cheshire East does and how we can relate to pupils.

"We’ve made some great links with schools this week and hopefully we can develop them further.”

Local Democracy Week is a national initiative to bridge the gap between politicians and young people.
