NORTHWICH’S town centre is about to receive a boost with the opening of two new food and drink establishments.

The town has taken a massive hit in the past year due to the recession but it seems there are signs of recovery.

Cafe Terrazzo, a Mediterranean cafe, is to open in the shop previously occupied by fish and chip shop, Gossips on High Street.

It will offer a range of sandwiches, platters and paninis as well as holding a licence for alcohol.

Manager Debbie Taberner, from Leftwich, said she hopes the shop will open in early November.

“My sister Karen is in outside catering in the Lakes and I have decided to go into business with her.

“The Mediterranean theme was to do with how much we love holidays and trying to combine all these countries into one place.

“I grew up in catering work and after working at a hotel at the airport I’ve helped out with Karen with her business and this is something I have always wanted to do.”

And the Old Crown is also set to re-open its doors – but with a different name.

The once popular pub on Crown Street, closed earlier this year after going through numerous owners.

A purple banner saying ‘Maxwells’ currently sits above the entrance of the pub.

A spokesperson for Punch Taverns, who own the pub, said: “We are delighted to confirm that we have recruited a new licensee for the Old Crown, Northwich.

“They have our full support in building a successful, sustainable business.

“We look forward to the pub re-opening towards the end of the year.

She added that the final details of the pub’s development were being finalised and as a result the new owners would only be confirmed once that process had been completed.
