MIKE Alcock signed off as Winsford United manager as a winner.

The former Middlewich Town assistant boss has followed Terry Murphy out of the Barton Stadium exit after admitting the task had become ‘too much’ for him.

His team dominated from the start against the Premier Division’s wooden-spoonists.

They came from behind to do it as Ashley Brown fired the home team ahead from distance on eight minutes, but it was one-way traffic afterwards.

Mike Brandon had a goal ruled out for offside and Craig Hoyland had gone close before Blues levelled on 19 minutes through Steve Warburton.

Further first half efforts by Josh Hancock, Elliot Ledwards and Brandon failed to put Winsford ahead before a fine movem down the left between Ledwards and Warburton saw the former get to the byline to send in a low cross that Hancock drilled home.

Lee Duckworth was alert at the start of the second half to prevent an Abbey equaliser, then Blues extended their lead on the hour.

Ledwards and Warburton were again involved in the build-up, setting up Hancock to score his second goal.

Keeper Robert Jones made a fingertip save to deny the former Nantwich Town wide man before former Northwich Victoria and Witton Albion youngster Tom Rutter scored his first Blues’ goal.

He skipped around Jones after racing clear, sliding the ball home from a narrow angle to send Winsford into the top half of the table.
