BLUES were better against star-studded Bacup.

Had they brought their shooting boots, newcomer Dave Tasker included, then they may well have bagged a first victory since the start of December.

They had little to show for an improved first half showing.

Tasker impressed and, when he gets used to playing with his new teammates, he should prove a useful acquisition The second half began with a shot from Kyle Harrop for the visitors that had keeper Jamie Mottershead scrambling across his line, but that was about it from Bacup.

The introduction of Alex Bishop and Phil Mason raised the supporters’ hopes and the latter spurned a great chance to score on 70 minutes when he was put through.

Bishop was next to go close when he missed Mark Calland’s low cross by inches.

A couple of shocking misses by Couch in the closing minutes left Blues wondering what might have been.
