WINSFORD United slumped to a fourth successive defeat as their season threatens to unravel.

Blues have scored only once since the start of December, a run that has seen them slide from sixth spot into midtable obscurity.

This game was up inside 20 minutes.

Defensive blunders presented the visitors with two goals in that time, enough to end the match as a contest.

A mix up between Tony Sayer and John Bluck presented possession to Glossop on eight minutes and a cross from the left ended with Nick Allen driving home.

Blues’ guests doubled their tally 12 minutes later, Martin Parker scoring from close range following another left wing centre.

Shots from Dave Barnes and Michael Owens, both off target, were the only threats by the home side.

A heavy pitch did not help as Winsford’s defence relied on long balls down the middle, meekly handing over possession to their opponents.

Front pair Jacob Baptista and Alex Bishop struggled to make any impact as a result.

There was an improvement after the break following Darren Connell’s introdution but the match was put beyond Blues on 62 minutes when Ian Callaghan pulled down Tom Bailey and Dave Young sent Alex James the wrong way from the penalty spot.

A third goal seemed to take the pressure off the hosts and a little more confidence returned to their play when they were almost rewarded by late efforts from John Couch and Owens.

Winsford have shipped eight goals in the past two home encounters, failing to score themselves.

They remain just three points from a return to the top six, but have played at least three more matches than any of their closest rivals.
