A POPULAR family fun day has been cancelled.

Reaseheath College’s annual Family Festival will not go ahead in 2024.

It had been due to take place on May 12 but due to flooding organisers have decided to pull the plug.

A statement on the college’s website reads: “The unprecedented rain over the winter and early spring has meant our fields are waterlogged and therefore in a condition which we feel is unsafe for the parking of high volumes of vehicles.

“Using the fields for the event in their current state would also have a highly negative impact on the management of our farm in future months and the feed for our farm’s livestock.

“Cancelling this event has not been an easy decision, but after carefully assessing all other parking options, we have no choice but to cancel. We apologise for any inconvenience this news may cause.

“We understand this is disappointing but there will still be plenty of opportunities to visit us at various shows over the summer.”

The Family Festival was due to feature a wide range of activites aimed at highlighting the college’s offerings and celebrating the community.

Visitors would have been able to get hands-on with a variety of workshops such as bricklaying, tree climbing, stock judging and flower arranging.

There was also going to be some more unusual entertainment including the Magical Musical Bike, the Bwyellwyr Clwyd Axemen, a team of stunt BMX riders and a cycling sheepdog.

Anyone who had already purchased tickets for the event will be issued with a full refund in the coming days.

The next edition of the festival will take place in May 2025.

A spokesperson for the event said: “We are pleased to announce that our much-loved Family Festival will return on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and we look forward to seeing you there.”
