A CASINO in Northwich has an unlikely set of regulars.

Admiral in Witton Street has become a hotspot for the town’s duck population.

A male mallard has been bringing his feathered friends along to the casino for around two years now.

Amanda Rimmer, manager of the branch, said: “The ducks have been visiting us at Admiral for the past two years.

“They come three times a day – morning, afternoon and evening.

“The male duck will look in at us to get our attention to take food out to him and his lady friends.

“Sometimes he will camp out in our doorway for a rest or to get a different staff’s attention in the hope of getting more food.”

Staff at Admiral are well accustomed to the sight of the flock’s ringleader peering through their window.

Given the life expectancy of a mallard is five to 10 years, it is quite unlikely he is even old enough to enter a casino.

Despite this, he has been known, on occasion, to try his luck and enter the premises.

With this in mind, and perhaps health and safety regulations too, Amanda has had to introduce some new rules.

She said: “They have now become part of our working day and any new staff are advised to feed him if he is looking in through the glass because if he has to wait he will try to sneak in.

“They have become very comfortable around us and are quite happy to feed from certain staff members’ hands.”
