POLICE have seized a “focal point” of anti-social behaviour.

Cheshire Police and Weaver Vale Housing Trust (WVHT) have teamed up to act on complaints of an abandoned caravan in Rudheath.

The vehicle had been left on Magdala Place for several weeks, with no signs of the owner coming to collect it.

Sarah Saward, WVHT’s head of tenancy and neighbourhood sustainability, said the caravan had become a safety concern.

“We are committed to keeping our neighbourhoods safe and tackling anti-social behaviour, and we would like to thank Cheshire Police for their support in this case,” she added.

“On Thursday, February 29, we worked with the police to remove an unoccupied abandoned caravan that had become a focal point for anti-social behaviour in the area, posing threats to the safety and well-being of nearby residents.

“Our team will always work proactively with the community to address issues that matter to them, and we would urge tenants to report anti-social behaviour on www.wvht.co.uk.”

It is the second time a caravan has been dumped in this spot.

On the previous occasion, Cheshire Police issued a closure order to the vehicle, which belonged to a drug dealer who has since been jailed.

This time around, police say they received several complaints from residents who said the vehicle had become the subject of 'frequent' anti-social behaviour and drug use, causing them 'considerable distress'.

On February 14, WVHT issued a notice on the vehicle, giving the owner two weeks to move it.

There was no response from the owner. As such, on Thursday (February 29) WVHT joined police officers to remove the vehicle from the area.

No arrests have yet been made.

Meanwhile, local PCSOs will be working with Northwich’s ‘mini cops’ in the coming weeks to help tidy up the area, in the hope this will deter such behaviour from happening again.
