Weaverham Academy pupils enjoy 'unforgettable' trip to London

Year five and six pupils at Weaverham Academy recently embarked on a tour of the capital, taking in its famous sights and landmarks.

The children were joined by their teachers, who brought to life their studies as they visited the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square.

Head of school Jo Price said: “It was wonderful to see the excitement on the faces of all of the children.

“I feel it is important for them to experience the capital city before they leave primary school and this was the perfect opportunity.

"It definitely opened up the children’s eyes to wonder and possibility. They had an action-packed day and were able to see what they’d been learning about in class.

"It’s definitely something that we are going to repeat every other year."

The Weaverham pupils made an early start to catch a train from Runcorn to Euston, and then walked over Waterloo Bridge to the Houses of Parliament where they enjoyed a tour and observed a debate.

A Tube ride from Westminster followed, before the youngsters were transported on a 'mission to Mars' at the Science Museum.

St James’s Park, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square were all stop-off points on the way back to Euston Station as a day came to a close.

The visit to London was made possible by a £1,000 grant from the Timpson Foundation, applied for by teacher David Ellis.
