A NEW location for Krazy Races has been revealed.

Crewe will host the popular soap box derby in 2024, Sarah Belcher Events Limited has announced.

This comes after Northwich Town Council decided to "rest" the event for the “foreseeable future”, despite it raising more than £20,000 for charity and attracting thousands of people to the town.

Instead, Crewe will host the free-to-attend event on Sunday, July 14.

Danny Scoffin, head of brand and strategic development for Krazy Races, said: “As a company, we are thrilled to be bringing Krazy Races to Crewe next year.

“I live in Crewe, so for me Crewe Krazy Races will be very special.

“I know the massive positive impacts our events make to the communities we visit and I can’t express how delighted I am today to finally be able to announce that we are bringing our ‘KRAZY’ event to Town.

“ We would like to say a massive thank you to Crewe Town Council for welcoming us to Town, we are really excited to be working with them and can’t wait to start meeting some of Crewe’s amazing businesses, charities and teams in the coming weeks.”

Krazy Races first debuted in Northwich in 2022, with more than 15,000 people flocking to the town to watch.

The next year proved to be even bigger, raising £20,000 for local charities.

This helped Krazy Races to win the ‘One to Watch’ award at the National Outdoor Events Associations Awards last month.

However, the town council decided against hosting it again in 2024.

A spokesperson said: “The council and its partners are always looking to bring new and exciting events to the town which we will continue to deliver, it is our goal to create a varied calendar of events throughout the year for the whole community and local business.

"All events are looked at to ensure we deliver the best possible experience and value for money."

Attention now turns to the Crewe event, with organisers hoping to get 20 to 40 local teams to take part.

Up to 20,000 residents are expected to fill the streets for the first of its kind event, which will involve races featuring chicanes, obstacles and more.

Sarah Belcher Events Limited is also looking to work with local stakeholders and businesses to provide entertainment and food stalls, with a partnership already reached with Crewe Town Council.

A spokesperson for the council said: “This is fantastic news for Crewe and promises to be a fun, free to attend day out for everyone!

“We hope that lots of individuals and organisations from across our community will get involved to design and create their own soapbox creations and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.”

Northwich residents wanting to get their Krazy Races fix in 2024 will have other options, should they not be able to make the Crewe event.

Stockport and Warrington in Cheshire will also be hosting races, as will Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.
