A POPULAR cocktail bar has opened a new venue in Northwich.

The Roman at Winnington Urban Village opened its doors for the first time this afternoon (November 20).

Located just off Walker Road, the bar has been created by the team behind The Bird and Hat, a cocktail and rum bar at the Bull Ring.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to present you our new bar, The Roman.

“It’s been one hell of a project and some blood, sweat and tears.

“We are super proud of this achievement, we hope you enjoy it and create some happy memories here, lots of love and laughter shared with great friends and family.

“Big thanks to all our families, all the staff and all the work lads who have helped us on this project, you’ve all been unreal.”

Plans for a micro pub at Winnington Urban Village were approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council in December 2021.

Up until now, the retail unit has been vacant since the district centre for the village was opened in 2020.

Some of the other units are already occupied, with the likes of Hollybank Veterinary Clinic, Mario’s Real Charcoal takeaway and Domino’s pizza all up and running.

A report recommending the micro pub be approved read: "Unit Five is one of the smaller units in a parade of shops and hot-food premises, including a vets, that has recently been constructed as part of the district centre for Winnington Urban Village.

"While the current mix of uses in the smaller units is providing hot food, it is considered there are sufficient other uses, and opportunities for retail and other further uses in the vacant units, that provision of a micro pub would not result in an overdominance of one type of outlet, or lack of opportunity to provide a broad range of facilities."

The Roman opened for the first time at 4pm on Monday (November 20).
