A CHARITY is preparing to open two cafes.

Changing Lives Together has announced it will be launching a pair of cafes in Winsford.

The first, at the Very Green Grocery, will open for the first time on Monday, with a second opening at Winsford Industrial Estate in the coming months.

This comes following the success of the charity’s first community café, which opened in Northwich earlier this year.

Rachel  Waterman, head of development at Changing Lives Together, said: “Changing Lives Together set up a community café in the Very Green Grocery, Northwich, in February this year with the aim of providing low cost, nutritious hot food to the community.

“We wanted it to be a place for people to meet, eat, socialise and also be an attractive and friendly place to wait if they were coming to shop in our community grocery.”

She added: “It’s been incredibly popular with Karen’s Big Breakfast being a particular favourite and so Cheshire Community Foundation generously awarded us a grant to open the same community café model in the Very Green Grocery in Winsford as there was no existing kitchen in the building.

“The kitchen is now built and the café will be welcoming customers as of Monday.”

Changing Lives Together launched Winsford Community Centre and the Very Green Grocery earlier this year following a refurbishment, with the building also used by other charities such as Cheshire Mind.

The community grocery sets out to cut down food waste and help people's budgets go further.

Surplus stock is collected from supermarkets and farmers and sold to those in need for a fraction of the price, with a bag of shopping worth up to £30 available for just £5.

The café will launch on Monday (November 20) and will open on weekdays from 9am to 1.30pm.

There are also plans to open it on Saturday mornings in the not-too-distant future.

On the menu will be a range of breakfast and lunch items, including Sharon’s Big Breakfast which comes with two sausages, two rashers of bacon, an egg, beans, tomatoes, two slices of toast, a hash brown and tea or coffee for £4.95.

There will also be a deal for two slices of toast and a cup of tea or coffee for just 40p.

It also serves as a Warm Space, offering people a friendly place to pay a visit in the colder months.

Next year Changing Lives Together will open a third community café, at the Reuse Warehouse store on Road Two at Winsford Industrial Estate.
