GHOSTS, clowns, witches and skeletons took to the water for a Halloween paddle.

Mid Cheshire Stand Up Paddleboarding (MCSUP) held its annual Halloween meet this week, with dozens taking to the icy waters of the Winsford Flashes in costume.

Brian Cadwallader, the Academy of Surfing Instructors-certified technical coach at MCSUP, said: “Couldn’t have asked for a better evening for our Halloween paddle.

“With a full moon, clear skies and a very still lake really set the ambience.

“From witches to ghosts, clowns to skeletons it was a fun packed paddle making for some great banter out on the water.

“Eventually returning to the coven and a cauldron of frogs legs and crows feet awaiting at the club house.”

MCSUP has been going for 11 years now and is based at Winsford Flash Sailing Club.

They use the River Weaver, which was formally became their home water through the Canal and River Trust’s river adoption scheme five years ago.

The group host paddles all along the river, from Winsford to Runcorn.

Whilst it is a members-only club, MCSUP is always open to newbies.

Brian added: “Our instructors oversee each activity and ensure all members are safe. Our activities are always supported by our members and it’s great to see paddlers out enjoying themselves.

“We have been to some amazing places to paddle over the years from subterrain paddling under three-mile tunnels to the open lakes of North Wales.

“It’s a great way to keep fit and join likeminded people, the club is about fun and enjoyment.”

“From it’s start, MCSUP has always tried to celebrate calendar events and we have a social team that plan these activities throughout the year.”

The Halloween paddle took place on Thursday (October 26).

Next up for MCSUP is a paddle at the Liverpool Light Festival at the Royal Albert Dock.

This will be followed by a Santa paddle on the River Weaver in Northwich on December 9.
