WINSFORD is gearing up to host its first-ever festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.

The idea came about at a town council meeting in June, when councillors were asked to propose new ideas for the community events calendar.

Now, following weeks of planning, the idea has come to fruition with the maiden Winsford Pride taking on Saturday (September 9).

A council spokesperson said: “Pride is a time to celebrate how far we’ve come whilst acknowledging that there is still work to be done in our fight towards equality in Winsford.

“This event is open to all, and is Winsford’s chance to celebrate individuality and diversity, and to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

“A number of organisations will also be present on the day to provide information and support they will be located in the Wellbeing Zone.”

Winsford Pride gets underway at 4pm and will be held at Marina Island on Station Road.

The free event will feature local artist Sophie Bond, ABBA tribute artists and Dolly the Drag Queen. There will also be bars and food on offer.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, who seconded the idea at June’s meeting, said: “Pride is a time to celebrate how far we’ve come whilst acknowledging that there is still work to be done in our fight towards equality in Winsford.

“I'm pleased that Winsford Town Council has worked to make sure this event is open to all.

“It is Winsford's chance to celebrate individuality and diversity, and to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.”
