HUNDREDS of people took part in world record attempt during the Piña Colada Festival.
DJ Max Mutant got the party started on Saturday as the town once again transformed itself into a Caribbean carnival to celebrate the iconic song by Rupert Holmes.
In a bid to make the occasion extra special, Max decided to set about setting an unofficial world record for the most number of people singing it together during his performance in Apple Market Place.
He said: “I didn’t quite get a number only because there is no official record so any number would have set it!
“But I’d say in that main square there was around 300 people about at that time!
“We also handed out lyric sheets for people at tables and benches which was a great way of getting people involved!”

Max is aiming to make the attempt official at the 2024 festival and is already planning how to attract even more participants.
He said: “Next year we may have a few lyric screens and speakers set around the town for everyone to join in with it also being accessible for deaf people after talking to some of the members from the deaf society on the day.”
It is estimated that around 26,000 people descended on Northwich on Saturday for the third annual Piña Colada Festival.
Spread across the town, visitors could enjoy fairground rides, games, live music, parades and more.
Between his sets at Apple Market Place at midday and on Witton Street at 5pm, Max was able to enjoy all the festivities on offer, and he reckons this may have been the best year yet.
“The festival this year was jam packed full of things for everyone!” he said.
“DJs filled the streets and bands kept everyone dancing!
“What I thought was great was each pub and businesses take on the Pina colada!
“It was fun to walk round and see who was top dog!
“Best year yet!”
