NORTHWICH golfers helped Cheshire boys teams to achieve fine wins.

The under 16s group enjoyed playing at the superb Conway Golf Club course, which recently hosted the Curtis Cup match between Great Britain and USA, in their match against North Wales Boys.

After James Hey (Wilmslow) and Max Iveson (Malkins Bank) had won the opening match 2/1, Lucas Kuiper (Stockport and Disley) joined Harry Kell (Sandiway) to double the lead with a big 7/6 victory.

More points were added by Aaron Mohun (Delamere Forest) and Lawson Yates (Ringway) 2-1.

Ben Buchananan (Crewe) and Aaron Cullen (Royal Liverpool) lost out 4/3 and Jasper Hughes (Wilmslow) and Leonardo Hirons (Royal Liverpool) lost out 3/1, then Harry Payne (Caldy) and Louis Rickett (Eaton) restored the team's advantage to 4-2 before the singles were abandoned due to thunder and lightning to leave Cheshire with a 4-2 win.

The other boys’ game saw the under 14s playing at Prenton against their juniors.

Fortunately the weather only affected one game, which was abandoned on the 16th at all square.

Picking up the points for Cheshire were Dylan Emms (Bramall Park) 2/1, James Clark (Sandiway) 3/1, Eamonn Palmer (Upton by Chester) 6/5 and Ricky Mohun (Delamere Forest) also 6/5.

Finishing all square were Oliver Coleman (Stockport) and Shane Clayton (Delamere Forest) also 6/5.

Under 14s team manager Graham McCormack congratulated the team on a much improved performance, resulting in a 5.5-2.5 win.

Competitions have been taking place on various Cheshire courses.

A Seniors Stableford at Avro had Chris Hynes in firm control with 42 from Paul Johnson and John Wetherell, both 39.

The July medal at Avro had division one won by Phil Normanton with a sweet 66 from Neil Flood 68 and Peter Roles 69.

In division two John Wetherell was top of the pile with 67 from Ian Anderson 68, Les Fowler 69 and John Isherwood 70.

The professional’s prize at Alderley Edge was a tight contest with a cpo on 38 going in favour of Ben Craven from Matthew Cresey, Andrew Marshall and Christian Cartwright.

A 9-hole Stableford at Alderley was won by Craig Jefferson 19 ahead of Billy Bennett 17 and Kieran Paisley 16.

Edge’s ladies played a Stableford as a qualifier for the MDLGA Bunty Booth competition and Yvonne Grundy will represent the club after posting 39, one more than Lesley Fowler.

Angela Atkinson won the 9-hole qualifier with 13, two more than Liz McGuire.

Macclesfield ladies played for Mr Captain’s Prize and Jill Hunter Blench was a delighted winner with 73 from Rita Barton 75 and Judy Mutter 78.

Myra Clark had the best gross after a cpo on 97 with Daisy Ward and Greeba Jones won division two with 77.

Macc ladies had mixed results in two team matches losing out 4-3 at Davenport in the MDLGA Bell Cup in very unpleasant conditions But they bounced back well in their East Cheshire League match hosting Didsbury ad had a 7-0 white wash.

Macc’s men played their July medal and Roger Tippen was first past the post with 67, two less than Martin Gravestock, Keith Griffin and Mark Jackson.

Robert Healy was unstoppable in Macc’s Captain’s Day medal posting a super 63 to finish well clear of Simon Barber 68, Mark Jackson 69 and Ron Smart 70.

A Stableford at Mottram Hall saw division one won by Peter Smith 40 from Joshua Hockenhull 37 and David Laird 36.

In division two it needed a cpo on 38 to see Craig Wilson home from Fraser Scott, one more than Paul Bond.

The Prestbury Scratch Open attracted a stellar field for the 36-hole competition and in round one Cheshire Boys Captain Dan Hayes (Bramhall) set a hot pace with 67 three less than Andrew Haswell and Luke Kelly.

In round two Thomas Watson posted 68 to finish ahead of Andrew Haswell 70 and Sam Prince and Kristian Towers, both 71.

The winner with an aggregate of 148 was Charles Holland ahead of Andrew Davis 149, Samuel Orton 150 and Dan Hayes , Jack Woodward and Danny Rowley, all 151.

Lady President’s Day for Prestbury ladies saw Kim Mortimer in the pole position with 72, ahead of Jillian Morris 73 and Elizabeth Thomas 74.

The 9-hole winner was Alex Forbes 38 from Shirley Davies 40 and Penny Barber 41.

Styal ladies were in Stableford mode and Enid Laverty was out on her own with 34 from Andrea Savin and Joan Andrews, both 30 and Elaine Hunter and Helen Billington, both 29.

A Styal Seniors medal had division one topped by Richard Vaal 67, three less than Steve Walker, Colin Fellowes and Stephen Atherton.

In division two Roger Hooley was untouchable with 62, six less than Kevin Hope and Peter Christelow.

The Friday 9-hole Frolics at Styal had Eva Morgan on top with 18, one more than Roman Hicks and George Barnes.

The Saturday Stableford at Styal had division one led in by soccer legend Rick Worsley 35 from Gareth Moorhouse 34 and Joel Norcross 33.

Mark Bailey was a clear winner in division two with 38 from Nico Leone 34 and Keith Dawson 33.

The Styal Sunday Stableford saw Scott Lilleystone too hot to handle with 45 taking him well clear of Iain Scott 38 and Peter McKenna, Luke Guest and Steve james, all 37.
