A MULTI award-winning drama company which only performs in towns without a theatre of their own will soon be heading for Winsford.
The Mikron Theatre Co. is making its first visit of the year to the town on Friday, May 19, with their new show, A Force to be Reckoned With – Pioneering Women in the Police.
Mikron, who are the UK's only professional theatre company to tour by narrowboat during the summer months, are well known for their shows focusing on British life, covering everything from allotment politics to Butlins holidays, beekeeping, and women’s football.
What’s more, the show’s sponsors, Friends of Winsford Town Park, are offering Guardian readers a chance to win two free tickets to see the show at Winsford Academy Theatre.
John Malam, chairman of the Friends, said: “It’s live, professional theatre at its very best, and the audience will be in for a treat.
“This new show tells the true story of how women have become an essential part of our police force.
“Set in the 1950s, we’ll see how women police constables take on everything from troublesome teens to fraudulent fortune tellers, and how what starts as ‘women’s work’ soon becomes a specialist role.
“The cast of four play multiple roles, and never leave the stage – a change of hat or coat transforms an actor into a different character.
“The audience sees the changeover, and is whisked along with it, as the story unfolds in Mikron’s trademark fast paced style of humour, song, and a sprinkling of facts.”
