A THEATRE in Northwich is bringing to life a ‘gripping thriller’ written by an established French playwright.

The Conductor is playing at The Harlequin Theatre, Queen Street, for just three nights from May 11-13 at 7.45 pm.

The play is a thriller which begins when a ‘rather odd and comical’ superfan, Léon Dinkel, visits famous conductor H P Miller in his dressing room to ask for his autograph.

Miller initially dismisses him, but as the play proceeds, Dinkel lets slip one revelation after another about Miller’s dark past.

The ending is ‘as surprising and shocking’ as the events from Miller’s past which come back to haunt him.

Charlie Gobbett, the play’s translator, who is also directing the piece at The Harlequin Theatre, said: “What’s unique about this thriller is the way music – including violin played live on stage – is very much part of the action.

“We have managed to get Frodsham-based professional violinist Daniel Axworthy involved in the project, so audiences will be able to enjoy his virtuoso playing as the story unfolds.”

The author of the original play, French playwright Didier Caron, has enthusiastically endorsed Charlie’s translation, and was hoping to attend the premiere but is currently touring with his latest play in France.

He has recorded a video message of support which can be viewed on the Harlequin Theatre Facebook page.

Actors Tony Hoy and David Bryan will take to the stage in the production.

Tony has appeared on the Harlequin stage a few times, but David is new to the theatre, having performed extensively at Stoke Rep, Nantwich Players and elsewhere.

Audiences can enjoy a drink before the show in the revamped bar (the theatre bar will be open from 7pm) and then take their reserved seat in the auditorium, where all seat rows are tiered, with no restricted views.

More information and tickets, priced at £11, are available on the theatre website or by phone on 01606 624517.
