A SLIMMER is hoping to inspire others to take control of their eating habits with a new slimming world group in Rudheath.

Fiona Gerrard started as a consultant for Slimming World in November 2019, just before the pandemic.

And now she is relaunching a group at The Venue Community Centre in Rudheath, starting on Tuesday, February 28, at 7pm.

Fiona joined a Slimming World group herself eight years ago as she knew her weight was spiralling out of control and was suffering from dangerously high blood pressure.

She explained: “Walking through those doors was the most daunting thing ever, I was so embarrassed and worried what people would say about me.

“But within minutes, those feelings subsided as the whole group were amazingly friendly and that eased my anxiety immediately.

“I couldn’t believe how amazing and tasty the food was and not once did I feel restricted.”

Fiona lost just short of four stone on that occasion, but life got in the way, and she stopped going to the group.

The light bulb moment to kickstart attending Slimming World was when Fiona went on an all-inclusive holiday to Mexico.

She said: “I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin, I wanted to cover myself up so no one could see my body.

“I hated myself so much that I decided enough was enough and I had to take control of my eating habits!

“When I re-joined Slimming World as a member, I never dreamed that I was about to help other people to lose weight.

“Support is really the most important thing. It all starts with feeling that you’re not alone.

“As someone who has lost weight myself, I know the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, I will be there to support every one of my members all the way to their chosen target weight.”
