Travelodge has released a list of bizarre items left at their Middlewich hotel in 2022.

Who can say they have never overslept in an hotel, only to wake up 10 minutes before checkout time in a panic about getting charged extra.

You jump up, forget the shower, then start throwing things randomly into your suitcase.

In the circumstances, it’s pretty inevitable you are going leave something behind. A toothbrush maybe, or a sock. But a sheepskin rug?

That's right. Staff at Middlewich Travelodge found a sheepskin rug in a room after someone had left.

Did they bring it from home to make the room more comfortable, or did they buy it over the course of their stay and forgot they had done so? Surely, we will never know.

That wasn't the only strange item found by staff at Middlewich. How about a light-up sign that reads 'Gin to my Tonic', or a set of architect's plans for a new build eco-house.

Just down road at Crewe Travelodge, one member of staff found a gold pocketwatch, another a business plan for an online men's jewellery band. One lucky housekeeper discovered seven carved Halloween pumpkins, and another, a Union Jack top hat.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 580 UK Travelodge hotels, including our hotels in Middlewich and Crewe, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

"During 2022, this included seven carved Halloween pumpkins of different scary faces, a Union Jack top hat and a train spotters journal.

“Interestingly the 2022 lost and found audit also revealed that we are a nation striving for a healthy lifestyle, as we have seen a significant rise in smart watches being left behind in our Travelodge hotels during the last 12 months.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”
