WINSFORD cruised to a second successive win to complete a rare double.

John Couch's double and further goals by Phil Mason and Ross Kennedy were enough to account for Abbey Hey, while at the other end Joe Gibiliru's men were happy with another shut out.

Blues hit the front on seven minutes.

John Couch, enjoying his best game in a Winsford shirt, drilled home a loose ball following Dean Ennion's corner.

Winsford continued to press and John Bluck was unlucky with two efforts, the first a shot that was cleared off the line and then a long range effort that curled just over Steve Downs' bar.

The visitors began to put some smart moves together and Blues' custodian Michael Langley had to be alert on 35 minutes to save from Astley Mulholland.

Four minutes later Dean Heffernan's shot was inches wide.

Winsford started the second period in style with two goals inside the opening quarter.

Couch doubled his tally on 52 minutes when Ross Kennedy's free kick was parried by Downs and the ex-Cammell Laird midfielder was the first to react to the rebound.

Six minutes later it was three.

Phil Mason looked to have squandered an easy opening when he gave Downs chance to recover after taking the ball round him, but he recovered to score at the second opportunity.

From then on it was all Winsford as they launched attack after attack.

Lee Madin's free kick skimmed the bar and another Bluck effort was cleared off the line.

Abbey's Danny Doherty then authored an extraordinay miss.

Paul Pearson's shot hit the bar and looped up in the air but, with an empty goal, he somehow managed to head over.

The visitors' cause was not helped when Aaron Edwards, having been cautioned for a two-footed tackle on Couch, repeated the offence soon afterwards to earn a red card.

Blues had to wait until the 87th minute before adding a fourth goal.

Substitute Mark Dears collected the ball on the right and, sprinting clear of his marker, he sent in a perfect cross that was met on the run by Kennedy.
