A WATER supply company has apologised to residents living on a Winsford street after leaving a ‘dangerous’ hole in the ground for three months.
People living on Brecon Way say they made repeated attempts to contact United Utilities to have the issue resolved, but were growing increasingly frustrated.
The water company say the backfill excavation work was missed off the rota, leaving residents to brand the company ‘a disgrace’.
The residents say the open hole and the exposed pipework posed a risk to the public - particularly children playing out in the street.
However, the company has now resolved the issue and returned to the street on Thursday (August 11) to finally finish off the work.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “We recently connected a new development to our network.
“Unfortunately, the backfill of the excavation was missed off our rota.
“Our team has since returned to complete this work.
“We apologise to local residents for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience.”
A spokesman for the residents said: "One of the residents called them again the other day, really annoyed, as her son nearly fell in.
"Apparently they had been out to fill in the hole previously, but to the wrong location.
"At least it has been finally completed."
