FOLLOWING a poor start to the new league season with defeats against Barnoldswick Town on the opening day and Avro in midweek, Winsford manager Lee Duckworth is looking for a reaction from his team as they turn their attention to FA Cup action with Widnes the visitors to the Barton Stadium this afternoon.
Blues' manager provided his thoughts on his side’s performance on Tuesday night as well as the potential of a cup upset today.
“On Tuesday, we badly let ourselves down and the players know that," he said.
"The first half was separated by a mistake, despite the fact we never really got started.
"Then we gifted them a goal just after the break due to an individual error.
"Avro dominated the second half so we have no complaints. As a squad we put faith in the lads on the night who didn’t perform and we discussed it at length afterwards. The players are keen to put it right this weekend.
"Saturday is a really stern challenge against a team in the league above, so it doesn’t get much worse as a draw.
"The cup's made its name from underdogs and we’ll be doing our best to be another underdog story.
"The lads will have to work extremely hard and cut out the individual errors for us to have the best chance to cause an upset."
