A MAN who performed a sex act in front of two 11-year-old girls and a carer who abused her position by defrauding a person she was supposed to be looking after appeared in court this week.
Both were sentenced at Chester Crown Court, but it has also been another busy seven days for defendants in magistrates courts across Cheshire.
Here is a roundup of some of those defendants who have stood in the dock this week.
A JUDGE told a Weaverham man he should be ‘ashamed’ after he performed a sex act in front of two 11-year-old girls more than 30 years ago.
Mark Anthony Foster, of Forster Avenue, avoided an immediate spell behind bars when he was given a 21-month suspended sentence for two counts of indecency with a child.
A jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on two of the seven counts following a week-long trial at Chester Crown Court in June.
The 60-year-old denied any wrong-doing during the trial, saying the girls had either lied or misunderstood, but following his conviction had since told a probation officer, “I may have done it”.
In a pre-sentence report, Foster admitted he may have carried out the vile act when he was 'immature and silly' – despite being married with children and in his early 30s at the time.
He also told probation how he had enjoyed flirting with teenage girls back in the 1980s and 1990s because it made him 'feel like a stud'.
A CARER who abused her position to defraud a vulnerable man out of almost £4,000 has been jailed after showing ‘no remorse’ for her crimes.
Julie Jackson - previously of Lune Crescent in Rudheath but currently of no fixed abode - appeared in Chester Crown Court on August 3, after deceiving a 58-year-old man who had developed feelings for her during her time as his carer.
The victim, who has the mental age of an eight or nine-year-old due to a childhood accident, did not have the capacity to manage or make decisions about money.
Jackson, also 58, would help him with his finances and had his bank card and pin number.
The court heard how between August 2017 and July 2019, she abused this position of trust by persuading him to get loans, withdraw cash and pay for things for her.
The man said he had taken out two loans and paid for a holiday for Jackson – which he was never invited on.
DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following the attempted murder of a 20-year-old man at Handforth station.
Officers were called to the station shortly after 7pm on July 26 following concern for the welfare of two people.
Andrea Reid, of Clough Avenue, Wilmslow, was arrested at the scene.
The 53-year-old appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on July 28.
A BANNED driver has been brought back to court after riding an electric scooter in Northwich.
Jamil Shockness-Brown had previously been disqualified from driving, but was spotted riding an electric scooter along Winnington Lane on June 19.
Although the 23-year-old was not driving a vehicle, this is still classed as ‘driving whilst disqualified’.
Shockness-Brown, of Sandeman Crescent in Northwich, appeared in Chester Magistrates’ Court on August 2 where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
A NORTHWICH driver has been banned from the roads and ordered to complete unpaid work after failing to provide a sample of breath to police.
Graham Cole was required to provide the sample to officers in Middlewich on July 11, during the course of an investigation into whether he had committed an offence.
But the 24-year-old ‘failed without reasonable excuse to do so’.
Cole, of Ash Street in Northwich, appeared in Chester Magistrates’ Court on August 2 where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
A MAN from Weaverham has been fined after he was found in possession of drugs by police.
Matthew Rutter, of no fixed abode, had an unspecified quantity of cannabis on him the day after using threatening words and disorderly behaviour in Mobberley.
The 31-year-old was appearing at Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday, July 29.
Rutter entered guilty pleas, firstly to a charge of behaving in a way that caused harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public on April 26 this year.
A WOMAN who attacked two women on the same day has avoided jail.
Kimberley Vernon, of Benson Walk, Wilmslow, pleaded guilty at Stockport Magistrates Court to assaulting two women on November 5, 2021.
The 37-year-old also admitted racially abusing one of the victims and causing £40 worth of damage to her radio.
Vernon was given a community order after the hearing on July 20 and must complete a 12-month supervised rehabilitation programme.
A DRIVER caught speeding on the M6 has been hit with a £600 court bill.
Janine Culshaw, of Lacey Green, Wilmslow, was caught on camera speeding on the M6 northbound in Staffordshire on April 4, this year.
The 56-year-old pleaded not guilty to driving at a speed exceeding 70mph at Cannock Magistrates Court on July 28.
After listening to the evidence, magistrates found the case proved and convicted her of the offence.
A WINSFORD man has been given a community order after he assaulted a woman before obstructing a police officer who came to intervene.
Angelo Goncalves, of Hill Street pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 28.
The 40-year-old assaulted the woman on May 17 this year and then obstructed a police officer who was sent to the scene.
Magistrates made Goncalves the subject of a community order, part of which includes a requirement that he complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
A MAN who entered a mobile phone store in Winsford with a knife and threatened a woman has had his sentencing delayed.
On February 2 of this year, Vincent Henry was in possession of a 9cm kitchen knife while at the EE store in Jubilee Way.
He also used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman, ‘with intent to cause that person to believe the immediate use of unlawful violence by him would be used, or it was likely that such violence would be provoked’.
Henry, 40, of Station Road in Winsford, originally pleaded not guilty to the offences on March 1 at Crewe Magistrates’ Court.
A NORTHWICH man who crashed his car into a house but didn’t tell the police has been disqualified from driving.
Zak Johnson, of Malpas Road, was driving his Ford Ranger vehicle on Friday, June 12, when he lost control and ploughed into the home of a neighbour living on the same street.
Despite the 30-year-old giving his details to the homeowner, who he knew, he didn’t think he had to notify the police as others at the scene had already done so.
The bathroom-fitter was appearing at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, August 5, where he pleaded guilty to an offence of failing to report an accident.
A NORTHWICH man who stole painkillers, bottles of booze and doughnuts from a supermarket has been given a community order.
Lee Dunne, of Victoria Road, was also twice found in possession of quantities of cocaine and heroin and entered guilty pleas when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 4.
The 30-year-old must stay at the same address for the next six months and also provide samples as part of a drug and alcohol treatment programme.
Dunne carried out the thefts of goods from Asda in Barons Quay on July 1, with the items totalling £30.
A MAN has been charged with a string of sex offences after concerns women were being following in Winsford.
Enham Amarkhil, of Nixon Drive, was charged with stalking and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under the age of 13.
The 26-year-old was set to appear in court today (Tuesday, August 2) where he was set to face a total of five charges.
They also include engaging in sexual communication with a child, causing inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and using threatening behaviour to cause harassment.
