FAMILIES enjoyed fun in the sun as the Darnhall Show returned to Winsford after a two-year Covid-enforced hiatus.

On Saturday, July 9, crowds arrived at Court House Farm in Swanlow Lane to enjoy a feast of entertainment put on by organiser Sue Langley and her team.

From vintage tractors and classic cars to dance performances and dog training demonstrations, there was something for everyone.

Sue was grateful to everyone who helped put the show together and is already looking at what can be done next year.

She said: "We could not have wished for better weather for this year’s Darnhall Show.

"Huge thanks to everyone who attended the show, helped on the gate, helped to park the cars, had a stall, entertained us or came with a tractor or a car and helped set up the show and take it all down after.

"It took us a lot of long late nights working on the show after working all day but we finally got there.

"The team can now start to build on creating a bigger and better show next year.

"We did make a small profit, some of which is going to purchase some new equipment for Darnhall Village Hall and some is also going to prostate cancer this year.

"And finally many thanks to John Bownes for allowing the show to take place on his field again this year and getting it ready for us."

Compering the day was Chris Pope, however the task of judging the vintage cars and tractors fell to children from the crowd and Winsford mayor Cllr Joanne Moorcroft.

A vintage fire engine provided by the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was also in attendance, alongside John Bownes' steam engine and steam roller.

In the main ring this year were the Darnhall Dancers, the Darnhall Rose Queen organised by Angela Hancock, a gun dog training demo by John McDean, fun dog show, dog agility and a jujitsu demo by Chris Mann, all of which kept the crowds entertained during the afternoon.

A good selection of craft stalls was available with well-supported competitions for crafts, baking and flowers

Ian Davenport put on a fabulous display of pictures of the old Darnhall hall and surrounding areas and a variety of old tools.

The Winsford rotary club attended the show again this year and helped out with the car parking duties.

Grants Butchers provided a tasty BBQ thanks to John Major, while the Darnhall Brownies provided the teas and lovely cakes, organised by Ann Hignett and team.

The Old Star pub provided a bar, organised by landlords Ernie and Kim, with ice cream supplied by Stephanie Truffelli.

The team will be meeting again in the coming weeks to discuss plans for next year's event. To get involved email suelangley64@hotmail.com or visit the website www.darnhallparish.co.uk.
